MANAGING DIRECTOR (FIVE (5) YEAR CONTRACT APPOINTMENT) , closing date: 23 October 2015, at 12h00
As the national power utility company, NamPower has a critical role to play in ensuring security of power supply in Namibia. It’s core business is generation, transmission and energy trading, which takes place within the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP), the largest multi-lateral energy platform on the African continent. NamPower supplies bulk electricity to Regional Electricity Distributors (REDs), mines, farms and Local Authorities (where REDs are not operational) throughout Namibia.

THE ROLE

The Managing Director is responsible for the creation of shareholder value by giving direction, coordination of key activities and strategic leadership towards the achievement of both governmental objectives and NamPower’s business philosophy, mission and strategy, as well as its annual objectives. Such direction will include corporate governance, risk and performance management

Furthermore, the incumbent is responsible for ensuring that NamPower’s activities support economic development and create investor confidence. In conjunction with the Chairperson of the Board, the incumbent is responsible for enabling the Board to fulfil its governance function and Shareholder/Board performance obligations.

The incumbent is also accountable for the implementation of the strategic objectives of the company, as well as fostering stakeholder relations and compliance with relevant legislation. To sustain and enhance the strong corporate brand and image of NamPower, both nationally and internationally, is also a key requirement of the position.

THE PROSPECTIVE INCUMBENT

  1. Should be Namibian citizen
  2. Have a track record of operating at senior management level for five years, with a minimum of ten years working experience in the Electricity Supply Industry (ESI) or related industry, or similarly in a high profile and technically complex organization;
  3. Be in possession of a B. Degree relevant to the position (an MBA or MBL will be an added advantage)
  4. Demonstrate highly developed negotiating, influencing and leadership skills with the ability to provide vision and direction
  5. Display courage and comfort when taking sensible risks; is a creative problem solver, who is bold and decisive, and who is capable of navigating through complex problems and change
  6. Demonstrate the capability to provide greater operational efficiency and productivity to enable financial sustainability
