NamPower joined the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) to tap from the resources within the Southern African Development Community (SADC).The SAPP is composed of power utilities from Angola, Botswana, The Democratic Republic of the Congo, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe. In Namibia, NamPower is responsible, through the Single Buyer Business Unit, to buy electricity outside Namibia and sell inside the country. This has enabled NamPower to obtain a better cost structure and readily available power supplies. The SAPP Coordination Centre, which is based in Harare, Zimbabwe, coordinates the online sale of the electricity.
