Primary Purpose of the job:
  • The incumbent is responsible for co-ordinating the company’s Safety Programme within the designated area of responsibility.
Key Performance Areas
  • Assist with formulating and revising of the Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) programme.
  • Advice section heads on compliance to its SHE policy, and the applicable Legislation.
  • Advise, recommend and provide assistance on all occupational health and safety issues.
  • Review suppliers SHE documentation and recommend additional requirements as required.
  • Responsible for benchmarking NamPower’s safety standards and conducting audits and physical inspections.
  • He/she examines workplace conditions to make sure they conform to applicable SHE standards.
  • Assist with ISO Project implementation within NamPower.
  • Ensure that the findings of all monitoring programs are recorded, reported and implemented.
  • He/she conducts risk assessment with the relevant Line Management, employees and SHE Representatives.
  • Conduct accident/incident investigations in conjunction with the relevant line managers and supervisors.
  • Develop and present occupational health and safety training courses and induction modules relevant to the needs of the company to all levels of employees.
  • Identify unsafe acts/conditions, evaluate the risks and recommends control measures.
  • Assist with compiling safe working procedures and methods statements
  • Co-ordinate and supervise testing of fire detection systems, firefighting equipment and all auxiliary equipment, including log tests and reporting deficiencies.
Minimum Educational Requirements:
  • Relevant B – Degree (NQF 7) in Safety Management/ Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent qualification.
Experience Required:
  • Five (5) years working experience in safety management of which two (2) years is at supervisory level.
Additional Skills, Knowledge and Personality/Traits Required:
  • Computer literacy ( Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Projects & SAP)
  • Knowledge of environmental hazards and impact assessments
  • Knowledge and experience in the implementation of ISO 45001/18001 and other internationally accepted standards and practices as relevant to health and safety
  • Knowledge of materials and equipment to identify possible hazards
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Team work
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to handle diversity
  • Presentation skills.
  • Good communication skills backed by high level of integrity.
  • Knowledge of NamPower’s activities as a whole; Relevant acts and international and national legislation; Relevant policies, regulations and procedures; Relevant SAP modules.
