Primary Purpose of the job:
  • The incumbent will be required to assist with the installation and testing (using OMICRON CPC100& various CMCs, Doble M4000, Doble SFRA) of high voltage equipment e.g. voltage transformers, current transformers, power transformers and the reactor at Brakwater Test Bay as well as in Power Stations and /or Substations. He/she will further assist with the commissioning of primary plants and up to advanced PAC schemes and related systems.
Key Performance Areas
  • Perform/oversee and delegate as necessary the testing of power transformers, instrument transformers, reactors, NEC’s CVT’s Aux transformers, etc., in the field as required.
  • Draft and approve commissioning procedures and distribute among stakeholders.
  • Perform final inspection (as determined by scope of involvement/responsibility.
  • Asses and design the secondary systems interface.
  • Assist with assessing compliance, adequacy and appropriateness of designs submitted by tenderers.
  • Design basic to intermediate protection systems for CAPES/OPEX projects.
  • Assist with design reviews of HV primary equipment design submissions.
  • Perform secondary plant/PAC systems testing to determine faults in operation/performance of the system (s).
  • Retrieve fault records as required for further analysis.
  • Perform an intermediate in-the-field analysis of fault records and advise accordingly.
Minimum Educational Requirements:
  • B Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering (NQF level 8)
  • Valid Code B driver’s license
  • Registered with the Engineering Council of Namibia as a Professional Engineer
Experience Required:
  • At least three (3) years relevant experience in (electrical industry) Protection
Additional Skills, Knowledge and Personality/Traits Required:
  • Must be authorized to access Prohibited Areas (ORHVS)
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of NamPower’s Transmission-and Distribution networks and Generation systems
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Protection designs and practices/philosophies as well as advanced knowledge of HV primary equipment operating principles, designs and practices
  • Excellent command of English
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Strong planning and prioritizing skills
