Government Supports Energy Infrastructure Development

The Deputy Minister of Industries, Mines and Energy said the commissioning of the Sekelduin Sub-station is a clear demonstration of Government’s commitment to strengthening energy security, supporting economic growth, and creating opportunities for future generations.

"Today’s occasion is not just about the completion of infrastructure; it is about investing in the future of our country and improving the quality of life for all Namibians," Gaudentia Krohne said at the inauguration of the Sekelduin Substation, near Swakopmund.

She said the investment is in line with the Strategic Plan of the Ministry of Industries, Mines and Energy, which prioritises accelerating infrastructure development, advancing low carbon energy solutions, and ensuring sustainable access to energy for all Namibians.

Krohne said the increasing investment in oil and gas, renewable energy, green hydrogen, mining, and industrial development, all depend on a strong and reliable electricity network.

Applauding both NamPower and ErongoRED, the deputy minister stated that the project lays groundwork for future investments and ensures Namibia’s readiness to seize emerging opportunities, in line with its goal of building a diversified and resilient economy.

"This substation will ensure that the lights stay on, businesses continue to operate, and investors have confidence in Namibia’s energy future," Krohne stated.
