NamPower donates vehicles to schools
NamPower is aware of the many challenges faced by schools in rural and underprivileged areas of the country, which include the difficulties that students face in attending school due to a lack of transportation. This challenge ultimately leads to high drop out and repetition rates, as well as reduced participation in school events away from base.
With this in mind and driven by the company’s commitment to good corporate citizenship, NamPower on 20 May 2025 donated three vehicles, two Quantum Mini-buses and one Double Cab to three school respectively, namely Green Leaves Primary School (Khomas Region), Aranos Primary School (Hardap Region) and Onguti Secondary School (Oshikoto Region). The Quantum buses are aimed to provide reliable transportation for learners, ensuring that they have consistent access to educational activities, and the double cab will assist in the daily operations of the Onguti Secondary School, enabling staff to manage tasks efficiently and effectively.
“Through humble initiatives like this, NamPower aims to create an enabling environment in the education sector through alleviating some of the challenges faced by the Namibian child and invest in teachers and learners’ potential by creating opportunities where dreams and ideas can be realized. Therefore, in addition to this donation, NamPower has contributed a total of over N$30 million in Namibia’s education sector from 2018 to date. These sponsorships include infrastructural development and renovations, donation of computers, provision of stationery and furniture to schools and kindergartens, amongst others. All 14 regions of the country have benefitted from the support channelled towards the education sector” said Fritz Jacobs, Chief Operating Officer (NamPower).
Also speaking at the handing over ceremony, the principal of Aranos Primary School, Ms Sylvia Johannes, expressed gratitude to NamPower and vowed to make use of the vehicle to the full benefit of the learners. The principal of Green Leaves Primary School, Ms Josefina Asheeke, said that the generosity of NamPower Foundation has opened doors and experiences that will shape the future of the learners... “the children can now travel to sports and cultural trips representing their school and their community”. Inspector of Education Mr Robert Dishena concluded the program by alluding that education is a shared responsibility and requires all Namibians to work together to achieve. He called upon corporates to continue to plough back into community.
NamPower undertakes to continue investing in the socio-economic development of our communities for as long as resources allow.
