NamPower Celebrates 30 Years of Service

NamPower’s Managing Director, Kahenge Haulofu said the company had served Namibia without fail, an achievement everyone should be proud of.

"Our commitment to the nation has earned us a good reputation, one that we must guard jealously. At 30 years, NamPower has grown, evolved, and continues to thrive, and each of you has contributed to that progress in your respective roles. Together, we have helped advance the many areas of our company," the MD said at the celebration on Friday.

Haulofu narrated the billions of dollars invested in expanding generation capacity; development and strengthening of the transmission grid; implementation of new technologies; growth of the financial and asset base; investment in communities within which the company operates through its Foundation, Rural Electrification and its Bursary Programme.

He added that NamPower will continue to play a major role in ensuring security of supply for the country and its people.

"Thus, our mandate will remain strong and current. This calls on us to remain focused and committed as we have been over the past thirty years. The need to pull together has never been greater than now," he urged employees.

The NamPower head also recognised and appreciated the foundation that was laid by the company’ predecessor and its leaders at the time.

"NamPower took over a well-established and working system from SWAWEK in many respects. Today, as we celebrate 30 years, I will fail in my duty if I do not recognise and appreciate the foundation that was laid by those who came before us for the groundwork they put in place,".

NamPower was established from the former South-West Africa Water and Electricity Corporation, SWAWEK.
