Exclusions
What We Do Not Fund
While the NamPower Foundation strives to support a wide range of impactful initiatives, certain requests fall outside its scope of support.
The Foundation does not provide funding for:
- Individual sponsorships (e.g., personal tuition, travel, medical bills), unless under special health-related cases considered at the Committee’s discretion
- Political parties, political activities, or religious events intended solely for religious promotion
- Profit business ventures or commercial start-ups that primarily benefit individuals
- Events or once-off activities with limited long-term community impact
- Requests intended for fundraising events, prizes, or competitions not linked to sustainable development outcomes
- Activities that may harm the environment or conflict with NamPower’s values and policies
Focus Areas
Education
Education is one of the most important drivers of socio-economic development in any nation. The NamPower Foundation therefore plays an enabling role in strengthening the education sector and supporting equitable access to quality learning environments.
Areas of support include:
- Supplementing Government efforts to refurbish and develop infrastructure at public schools in both rural and urban areas
- Providing science equipment, educational stationery, workshop tools, furniture, and IT equipment to public schools, particularly in rural areas to help address inequalities in access to quality education
- Drilling boreholes at public schools to ensure reliable access to water
- Assisting kindergartens with infrastructure refurbishment and development, children’s furniture, and age-appropriate educational materials
Health and Social Welfare
The NamPower Foundation believes that a healthy nation is a productive nation. The Foundation supports initiatives that improve access to primary healthcare and promote the well-being of vulnerable communities.
Projects and programmes supported under this category include:
- Provision of items and equipment that promote health and social welfare
- Support to public hospitals and clinics facing critical resource shortages
- Assistance to community organisations such as orphanages and centres that care for vulnerable community members
- Refurbish and develop infrastructure for the Government’s health care sector
Community Development
The Foundation supports sustainable, community-initiated projects that improve livelihoods and promote self-reliance.
Typical areas of support include:
- Community gardening initiatives
- Water supply infrastructure (E.g Boreholes)
Other community development initiatives not listed above may be considered at the discretion of the Advisory/ Executive Committee, provided they demonstrate sustainability, economic empowerment and community benefit.
Eligibility of community projects:
- Registered with a relevant authority, if applicable.
- Should at least consist of 5 members from that community, but not from the same household or be related to benefit a larger group than an individual
- Be developmental sound and provide long-term benefits to beneficiaries.
- Be ready to plough back and improve the livelihood of the community in which it operates.
- Be in existence for at least one (1) year even if it is on a small scale. NamPower Foundation does not provide starting capital to projects.
To enhance NamPower Foundation’s footprints in all corners of the country, project already funded will be considered for funding only after five (5) years of funding. This however does not guarantee approval.
Capacity and Skills Development
The NamPower Foundation is committed to strengthening the capacity of communities and organisations to become more resilient and self-sufficient.
Capacity building involves developing and strengthening the skills, abilities, processes, and resources that individuals and communities need to adapt and thrive in a changing environment. It goes beyond performing tasks, it fosters long-term transformation in mindsets, confidence, and opportunity.
Under this focus area, the Foundation supports:
- Skills development and vocational training for youth and school dropouts
- Short courses that enhance employability and promote self-sustainability
Support is provided for group-based training programmes delivered by accredited or recognised training institutions. Funding requests must be submitted by the training institution or project organisation, not by individuals.
Funding Criteria
To ensure that resources are used effectively and create meaningful impact, all funding requests are assessed against the following criteria:

Alignment with Focus Areas
The project or initiative must fall within one of the NamPower Foundation’s defined focus areas.
- Community Impact
The initiative should demonstrate clear and measurable benefits for the community, particularly for underserved or vulnerable groups.
- Sustainability
Preference is given to projects that show long-term viability and the ability to continue delivering benefits beyond the Foundation’s initial support.
- Good Governance
Applicant organisations must demonstrate sound management practices, accountability, and the ability to manage funds and resources responsibly.
- Partnership and Collaboration
Projects that encourage community involvement, partnerships, and shared responsibility are viewed favourably.
- Legal Compliance
Organisations must be legally registered (where applicable) and operate in compliance with Namibian laws and regulations.
Application Process
Applicants seeking support from the NamPower Foundation are required to follow a formal application process.
Step 1: Submit an application/ request
Applicants must complete the official NamPower Foundation application form and submit all required supporting documents. These typically include:
- Proof of organisational registration (where applicable)
- Proof of Land ownership endorsed by the relevant authorities.
- A detailed project proposal, including objectives, activities, and expected outcomes
- Drawings and Plans of construction/ Fencing projects (Approved by the relevant authorities)
- A project budget (Cost estimates, Bill of Quantities)
- In case of community development projects, list of project members and proof of the project’s existence endorsed by the relevant community authorities
- Evidence of community need and anticipated beneficiaries
- Sustainability plan outlining how the project will continue beyond initial funding
Step 2: Review and Evaluation
Applications are reviewed to ensure they meet the Foundation’s funding criteria and fall within its focus areas. Additional information or clarification may be requested during this stage.
Step 3: Approval Process
Eligible applications are submitted to the relevant Committee for consideration and approval, subject to available funding and strategic priorities.
Step 4: Notification
Applicants will be informed in writing of the outcome of their application. Successful applicants may be required to enter into a formal agreement with the Foundation.
Step 5: Monitoring and Reporting
Funded projects are expected to:
- Use funds or resources strictly for the approved purpose
- Provide progress updates and a final report on the outcomes and impact of the project
- Allow site visits or monitoring activities where required by the Foundation
