UPDEA AGM 2010

Introduction

The UPDEA (Union of Producers, Transporters and Distributors of Electric Power in Africa) was established at the time when the majority of the African power utilities were vertically integrated States monopolies. By the end of 1980, the economic crisis led to reforms undertaken in the African power sector: some among the utilities were subject to reforms and were disintegrated and/or privatized.

Moreover, the African power utilities, while always facing the energy crisis have new challenges to take up which are inter alia the increasingly large aspiration of the African populations to have electricity, the problems of climatic reheating which bring to consider more energy efficiency and use of renewable energies.
There is then a need for the UPDEA to consider an action plan which allows the African power utilities find solutions to the energy crisis, for the increase of the electrification rate, for better energy efficiency and the use of renewable energies.

NAMPOWER ill be hosting the Annual General Assembly of the

UNION OF PRODUCERS, DISTRIBUTORS OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY IN AFRICA (UPDEA)

On 24th - 25th of NOVEMBER 2010

This event brings to Namibia major players in the electricity power sector across Africa and the rest of the world such as power utilities, electricity regulatory bodies, independent power producers, electricity transmitters and distributors, equipment manufacturers and suppliers financiers.

Stakeholders in the Namibia Electricity Supply Industry are cordially invited to the official opening and subsequent plenary session on the 24 November 2010. Presentations on Industry- specific topics will be made by industry experts, both local and international.
