- He/she will be responsible for the safe and efficient maintenance and modernisation of all instrumentation, SCADA, Control and Mechanical systems installed in the power stations. The incumbent is also in charge of all Electrical and Mechanical related projects and major Electrical and Mechanical maintenance projects involving TSS, at all the NamPower Power Stations. (This excludes supervisory and protection systems maintained by PTM&C).

Key Performance Areas: |
- Organises and directs the activities of four key areas within the section:
- Instrumentations, Automatic Electrical/Electronic control systems, SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) and Mechanical
- Ensures that National Control is advised timeously of any factors that may impair availability or performance of any plant.
- Request assistance from other specialists in NamPower, or from outside service providers, including ESKOM and others when necessary.
- Do fault finding and repair on PLC’s (Programmable logic controllers) utilised in control equipment (SCADA, control systems etc.)
- Prescribe maintenance routines for mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment in the power stations.
- Co-ordinates all maintenance routines, long and short term, with the Senior Manager/ General Manager while liaising with the Power station Managers and Superintendents.

- Assists with the preparation of Annual Operating and Capital Budgets for the forthcoming financial year for all items relevant to the maintenance and refurbishment of instrumentation, SCADA, control and mechanical systems of NamPower’s Power Stations applicable to the generation of electricity including inventory, personnel and resources requirements.
- Ensures that all plant used for the generation of electricity related to instrumentations, SCADA control and mechanical systems is properly maintained and returned in the shortest period of time when breakdowns occur.
- Co-ordinates and recommends training programs for technical personnel within the section.

Minimum Educational Requirements: |
- A BSc in Electronic or Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
- Must be registerable with the Namibian Engineering Council as
- Professional Engineer or Incorporated Engineer.

Experience Required: |
- At least 6 years in the maintenance field of equipment similar to the ones encountered in NamPower’s power stations.
|
|
Additional Skills, Knowledge and Personality/Traits Required: |
- An understanding of governors and AVR's within the context of a power system is a definite advantage
- Advanced knowledge of SCADA, PLC (Programming and Automatic Control) systems is essential.
- Code 08 Drivers license
