    May 2005

    Dear Readers

The month of May has been filled with so many public holidays, including the month-long school holidays - much to the excitement of many who just needed that break away from waking up early in the morning to drop off kids at school and for extra-mural activities. Now that it’s over we are back to business with June and even July promising no holidays at all, but chilly days and long nights.

As for me, it has been a challenging month, made up of long hours in front of the computer just to bring you this May edition of “Watts On”. I’ve been going solo since the Editor, Jothea Hite left NamPower at the end of April. Despite the long hours spent on seeing this edition through, it’s been a very rewarding experience.

The new Energy Minister, The Honourable Erkki Nghimtina has called for commitment and hard work from everyone, in providing power to all Namibians. He is passionate about rural electrification, ranking it tops on his list of priorities in the energy sector.

NamPower Managing Director, Dr Leake Hangala celebrates 10 years at NamPower this May. He describes his ten years with the company as having been exciting, full of responsibilities but most of all filled with unprecedented growth. He still feels strong to go on after the ten years and encourages every NamPower employee to work even harder to contribute towards the wellbeing of the company.

The SAP R/3 system, better known as SAP among employees is now two years in use within the company, and it has proved to be an efficient business system. Information Services Business Unit is happy with the system, and is calling for the optimum utilisation thereof.

NamPower employees making use of company vehicles should prepare themselves for training in defensive driving, a programme introduced by the Safety, Health and Environment section, to try and curb the increasing vehicle accidents with company cars.

This issue also brings an article on the former Editor of “Watts On”, the importance of customer service, and the joy that electricity brought to the Otjikondo Primary School.

I invite you to take your May copy home, make yourself a nice cup of coffee, relax and enjoy the articles as well as the tips on how to avoid flu this winter or how to mix herbal remedies to treat a cold.

    Enjoy!
    Tangeni Kambangula
