Some people take
their work seriously and don’t mind doing long hours while carrying out
their duties with passion and cheerfully. Such people need to be
appreciated and congratulated, especially when they go an extra mile.
Three staff members of the
NamPower Security Personnel went that extra mile when a colleague’s personal
belongings got stolen from her office. The suspects walked into Benita Mills’
office on 8 August 2005 and walked out with some things that did not belong to
them.
Chief Security Officer,
Metusalem Dumeni, Principal Security Official: Administration & Staff
Development, André van Zyl and Security Guard, Martinus Nambinga responded
promptly to the incident and with success.
Using the technical
security system at the NamPower Head Office, the three officers were able to
identify the suspects, who were eventually arrested on 13 August. Dumeni and
Nambinga traced the suspects in their free time over the weekend, and in
collaboration with the Special Field Force, the suspects were eventually
arrested.
Benita described her
experience as terrifying.
“But in the end, it was a
great relief to be informed that justice has prevailed.”
She commended the trio for
a job well done and for the professional manner in which they handled the
situation.
Their effort did not go by
unnoticed at all. NamPower’s General Manager: Investments and Commercial
Development, Lucia Shipena took it upon herself to congratulate them and present
them with a small token of appreciation.
“Some people regard their
work as a drag and just do it in order to get their pay cheque at the end of
every month. Others take their job seriously, no matter what it is and always
give their utmost best. This is what you three did. You went the extra mile
after Benita Mills lost her personal belongings from her office. Not everyone
carry’s out their duties with vigour. Your efforts are commendable. Sometimes it
might seem as if no one is watching, but you will be surprised.”
Although the token of
appreciation is small, it is more the thought that counts.
“The thought of thanking
you for going the extra mile”, Ms. Shipena said.
