In 1999, NamPower took a bold step and invested in a 900-kilometer long 400kV transmission line.
The result was reliable electricity transmission from neighboring South Africa and other Southern African Power Pool (SAPP) countries to Namibia. The 400 kV line from Aries in South Africa via the Kokerboom substation to the Auas substation, near Windhoek, gave NamPower sufficient capacity to meet power demands made by Skorpion Zinc Mine, the Ramatex Textile Factory and other future ventures earmarked for Namibia.
