    Watts On!
    Print this page

    April 2005

    Dear Readers

Once again, we are besieged by public holidays! With the first week of May having only two workdays, many companies are closing their doors for the entire week, or like in NamPower’s case, will work on a skeleton staff. We have therefore tried our level best to beat the holidays in getting to our printers, and hope that we get this edition out before Mother’s Day, which is on Sunday, 8 May.

Our biggest edition yet since starting to work on the Pagemaker programme in January 2005; this whopper has 36 pages including the cover. JC van Wyk drafted an excellent article explaining the RED, while Tangeni managed to get the opinions of the key Kudu team members all in one edition. With their hectic schedules, it is somewhat of a miracle! They are active, positive and rearing to go.

New Board Member Rauna Hanghuwo is one enthusiastic lady. Hailing from Eenhana via Cuba, this Civil Engineer has made vast inroads into the Ministry of Works, Transport and Communication and the Roads Authority where she now holds the position of Senior Material Engineer (for the Roads Authority Laboratory), Division Construction and Rehabilitation. She admits to working way too hard, but we know that it would be to the benefit of NamPower.

Werner Jetschko, Technical Advisor, Regulated Business, Transmission, retired at the end of March. A hands-on engineer with years of experience, he said that the responsibilities of his job and to manage people in such a way to obtain maximum productivity were important to him during his career at NamPower. We wish him all of the best for a healthy, wealthy and wise retirement.

Aina Booysen, secretary to the General Manager: NamPower Investments and Commercial Development, has really made us proud. Aina, who has been appointed to the Advisory Board of the Polytechnic of Namibia for the Department of Secretarial Studies beginning this year, will now contribute to the curriculum process of that department.

Chris Mukubonda, Manager: Internal Auditing, clarifies the difference between internal and external auditing, while Danie Louw, Manager: SHE, points out the absolute essentiality of bush clearing in environmental management and power line maintenance.

We have a competition – Name the Face and win! This will be a monthly feature in the Watts On. Winners will be announced in the following edition of the newsletter.

You will find a good number of Mother’s Day tips, jokes and inspiration; Watts On Junior has some highly interesting information from NASA, while the Health Section focuses on children with learning disabilities.

We hope to inspire you, make you laugh and spend time with your children. Oh, and we will teach you how to prepare for the perfect speech.

One speech that I still have to contend with is the one where I have to say goodbye to readers, colleagues and friends. I am leaving NamPower after 16 years. I have spent most of my working life at the company, and I felt that it was time to move on to explore other career possibilities.

I have always been grateful for your support, contributions, positive criticism and praise. Letters I will cherish are those from NamPower pensioners who wrote at least once a year to tell me how they’re doing.

To all the beautiful friends I have made at NamPower: God Bless. I will miss the NamPower Family. May you all grow and prosper.

    Kind regards

    Jothea Hite
