NamPower Foundation

Background

NamPower Foundation is NamPower's Corporate Social Investment (CSI) arm and was created with the objective to manage and coordinate NamPower's corporate social investment.

Guiding Principles

  1. Mandate
    The Foundation's main objective is to manage the corporate social investment of NamPower in a manner that is sustainable, so as to contribute meaningfully to the socio-economic upliftment of our target stakeholders. NamPower Foundation supports initiatives/projects in the 4 focus areas listed below and any other area as may be determined from time to time:
    1. Education
    2. Community Development
    3. Health and Social Welfare
    4. Capacity and skills development
  2. Vision
    To be recognised as a caring entity, that uplifts communities and transforms the lives of less privileged Namibians.
  3. Mission
    To achieve sustained improvement in the lives of Namibian individuals and communities through innovative and leading social interventions, whilst leveraging our resources and expertise to optimal effect.
  4. Values
    1. Honesty
    2. Respect
    3. Teamwork/ Collaboration
    4. Integrity
      The Foundation also subscribes to relevant NamPower policies and procedures that impact its operations as it carries out its mandate.

Governance

The governance structure of the NamPower Foundation comprises the Executive Management of NamPower, who provides policy direction, the NamPower Foundation Advisory Committeecomprising NamPower staff and chaired by a member of the Executive Management. The Secretariat is headed by the Head: NamPower Foundation.
The Advisory Commitee reviews applications for funding, and approves deserving requests.

Operating Framework

NamPower Foundation supports worthy causes and carries out this mandate through financial and in kind support of projects/initiatives which are in line with the operating scope of the NamPower Foundation as defined from time to time. The Foundation carries out this mandate through financial and non-monetary grants, such as material grants and employee time and skills and coordinates administrative functions regarding such corporate giving.

  1. Grants
    NamPower Foundation provides cash/non-cash grants to organisations/ groups involved in socio-economic oriented projects. NamPower also provides asset-based donations to deserving organisations/ groups, particularly those which are community-based, or have a welfare or developmental focus.
  2. Operating Strategy
    The NamPower Foundation applies proactive or reactive strategies with regard to project funding.
    1. Proactive Approach: The Foundation identifies projects worth NamPower Foundation's support and are in line with the NamPower Foundation Policy and Procedures and identified focus areas.
    2. Reactive Approach: The Foundation considers applications which are within the Foundation's scope as determined from time to time.

Exclusions

NamPower will not provide grants or support to:

  1. Initiatives aimed solely at benefiting individuals.
  2. Political parties or groups with party political affiliation.
  3. Labour unions.
  4. Individuals or groups of people on the basis of race, religion or political affiliation.

Sustainability

NamPower aims at making a positive impact in society. As such the Foundation pledges to support projects/initiatives which have a long term view and potential for sustainability. Applicants for support should therefore provide evidence of the sustainability potential of their projects.

Application Guidelines

All applications should be made on a special form titled: NamPower Foundation: Application for Funding. All applications for funding must contain/be accompanied by the following:

  1. Background information on the organisation/project (aims and objectives, achievements, and targeted beneficiaries).
  2. Certified copy of registration, of the applying organisation, with the appropriate authorities.
  3. A signed copy of the most recent audited financial report
  4. A detailed budget for the project for which funding is requested.
  5. Project Bank Account details [bank account, branch and account number].
  6. Two (2) references from other ?? (established) organisations or community leaders.
  7. Contact person(s) and contact details.
  8. Any other supporting information that may help the NamPower Foundation to understand the nature and work of the project.
